"Aotearoa" is a video poetry based upon the recordings of birdsongs by Karl Korte, a composer from the University of Texas at Austin. The birdsongs of the Kokako and Bellbird were recorded in New Zealand and processed with a Fairlight Computer Music Instrument at the University of Texas at Austin. The final on-line editing as well as video processing were done at the iEAR Studios, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, under the supervision of Hasnul J Saidon.

"Aotearoa" is a Maori word for the land of the long white cloud. Using lyrics from the native Maori songs as well as sounds of birds that are indigenous to the Maori people, the work tries to evoke the people's spiritual offering via electronic and digital medium. It evolves out of the darkness to reveal itself as the sun rises, to later developed into a complex juxtaposition of images of tattooed faces and carved figures. These images dwell in the midst of the continuously changing clouds and sky. The earthy nature of the images and sounds are blended with the heavenly nature of the clouds and sky. The piece ends with a return to the darkness, perhaps suggesting another cycle that is yet to come.
