TRACING THE LIGHT - "RIPPLES IN FUKUOKA" (2013)

Recent re-incarnation of "Interfaces", this time entitled "Ripples in Fukuoka" (2013), exhibited in "Kembara Jiwa" at the Chandan Gallery, Publika, Kuala Lumpur, July 2013. Video projection on ceramic bowl and water, published books, laser and LED pen, white granite stones, LED light, 'rehal', plastic floor mat. The show will travel to Fukuoka Japan in October 2013.

The first word revealed to the Prophet Muhammad is "Iqra'" translated as "Read" or "Proclaim". Many 'tafsir' or interpretations relate this to acquiring knowledge. An open book is an invitation to knowledge. The rehal is my personal index for my spiritual upbringing (my father used to be an ustaz and a Quran teacher). The bowl with 8 lotus petals relates to my encounter or dialogue with Zen Buddhism, whenever I stopped-by few zen gardens in Fukuoka, Kyoto, Yamaguchi and Tokyo back in 2003. It was a friendly dialogue, even intimate, as if meeting a nice person at a strange place. It left a lasting and profound experience, especially in relation to the transient nature of our 'identity'.
